For a beer this place is fine. For food find somewhere else. This place tries to cater to the affluent neighborhood it's in. But it's menu misses the mark offering limited traditional bar food at a premium $$.

Only been here a few times, which is weird because we live so close. The drinks are well-crafted and the food is ridiculously good (especially as it bills itself primarily craft beer and brown liquor). Even better, the atmosphere is super comfortable; just closed in enough, yet enough room to spread out with a mid-sized group. I have to give a shout out to Nicole, who is a big part of the positive experience. She's incredibly skilled at what she does behind the bar...which appeared to me to be literally everything! She knows how to keep things running so nobody's waiting for drink/food: take orders, train someone who I perceived to be a newer staff member, swab off the bar....while making small talk with patrons, close out our tab...and then ask if my husband would enjoy a birthday treat on the house. I didn't even mention how genuinely friendly and engaging she is. In short, A+ experience all around.

I have been here probably, 8/9 times now. (We go every Monday for Trivia). The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful with the menu, and do their best to keep your drinks filled. I've had a few different things here, all of which were great. The Buffalo Chicken mac and cheese is probably the best I can remember. Prices are slightly high, but not unreasonable. They have an extensive and reasonably priced scotch list.

Stopped in for dinner while visiting Brookline. We tried three items off the small plates menu and all three were flavorful and appropriately sized for the price paid. We wanted another item and a dessert option, but they were not serving them that night for some reason. The beer menu was unfortunately loaded with 'flavored' beers, and I didn't get the feeling the 'hops' part of their offering was a highlight. It is rare that I don't order a second beer, but I couldn't find anything else of interest on the draught menu.Overall though, the service was quite good and friendly, though the restaurant was nearly empty due to weather.

It's .... fine? I guess. It feels like a bar that couldn't decide what it wanted and instead became many things, none of which were done very well. Is it a modern, upscale eatery? No, there's a giant tv. Is it a sports pub? No, there's two floors both of which have dining. Is it a gastronomy/cocktail place? No, they have the same kind of cocktails everyone else does. It's fine. The food was better than I had expected, which is the only reason this place gets three stars.

The food is so good!! Everything came out fresh, hot, the home fries are the best!!! I highly recommend the Tres Leches French toast as well.Came in at prime brunch time on a Sunday and was seated quickly, the waitress, Alex, was amazing, timely. I never felt rushed, great brews on tap. The vibe is very cool, if you’re in the area stop in for a beer on tap, and if you’re not in the area go check it out anyways!

Service and drinks remain excellent, but the food - 4 different dishes - was blander than our previous excellent meal. Not "bad" by any means but unexceptional. We added cheese and a little salt, which helped but didn't make up for lack of subtlety. Will be back, though.

Delightful! Had brunch here with family over the Thanksgiving holiday. It's one of my family's favorite places. Great service. Very personable, and a special thanks to Luca (?) for helping me call a Lyft and navigate to the curb when it came. Delightful place! Not too noisy, either.

The food is regular, not a wide variety of dishes. The drinks are ok, with a lot of ice. I asked for a sangria ... And basically was water with a slice of strawberry. Furthermore, they arbitrarily charged me tips to my card that I didn't authorized. Be careful with that.

Ambiance and menu are good, great beer selection, I wish they had daily specials or the menu was a little bigger. I like their small plate of Mexican street corn. I think I'd prefer drinks and apps here to coming for dinner. Service is friendly and we have had no trouble coming without a reservation on a Saturday (on the early side).

Ambiance and service was really nice, but for their brunch menu I'm knocking a star off because the chicken and waffles I wouldn't get again. I'm a chicken and waffles addict, so a bit biased, but the potato hashbrown side was really mismatched and unsatisfying, and the waffle was similarly underwhelming. The chicken was really good though! But I would try a different brunch dish.

Great staff, upstairs bar area will be amazing in summer months and feels much less crowded than the downstairs bar. It's a great hangout for after work drinks and apps, and super easy to get to via the green line. Cocktail menu certainly is unique and worth trying, in addition to the beer menu which I think can accommodate lots of different tastes without being the "same old."

So hospitable for our large event! I planned a large conference for around 50 people at Harvard Med and needed a nearby speakeasy that would cater to our eaters' needs, as well as our government-funded restrictions. Hops N Scotch delivered!David and the Events Team have such a white-gloved touch; very hands on and always checking in to make sure our event was planned out smoothly. We came in from out of state, and were unable to check out the room in person or do any tastings. They were more than happy to answer questions, provide lots of info, and help make sure our event went smoothly. The night of the event was fantastic. Drinks and food were delicious (the best meat [and vegetarian!!] sliders I have ever had), wait staff were friendly and prompt, and I don't think any member of our team at any point felt neglected or under-fed. If we host another conference in Boston, we will undoubtedly be making use of Hops and their fabulous services again.

Nearest thing ever to the "Cheers" experience. Molly and Nicole and the guys whose names I forget - great bartenders. Nice selection of beers well kept - good rotation, decent wine, fantastic whisky menu. Mainly ate off the appetisers menu - some real tasty ones there.

Great place to go with friends for an informal chow down. Service and food are very good. Dinner was good value. It is an upmarket but unpretentious pub. We had a great time and I will likely return the next time I am in town.

Terrible service, bartender avoided me for the 3 drinks I had so I thought he was working the other side of the bar. A couple came in next to me and what do you know? I was wrong because they received service from him. Overpriced food that is OK at best.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Downstairs the bar and seating areas were lively and loud, but we were seated comfortably upstairs by a large window overlooking the front street. The food was bountiful and the service super friendly. Large drink list as well.

Great food, great vibes! Go for the shrimp bao, lobster rangoons (crack), and fish tacos!Tons of whiskey selection and an expansive beer list makes it a spot for everyone to gather and chill. The space makes it a great spot for organizing events. I have seen the place booked up for tons of buy-outs since there have been times where I was there ans they had ‘reserved’ signs for the upstairs dining room. Worth the try!

My parent booked a party on the second level of the restaurant and it was a great experience. The atmosphere was perfect and the food, drinks and service was exceptional. We go here frequently for a quick cocktail after work. Excellent beer selection, good app selection. I've not had a dinner here, but my overall experience is this is a great place.

This place has so much potential but was a letdown for the most part. The calamari was dry as the Sahara and the chicken bites were flavored with curry which was not detailed on the menu. Also the sangria was served out of an open-air cooler.. who knows how long the top had been off. Won’t be back

The Mac N Cheese and fries are THE BOMB! I tried a bunch of small plates, the steak was excellent, a bit odd with sweet tasting mashed potatoes but overall really good. The fried Brussels sprouts were ok, the chicken wings in peanut sauce were very good as well and the crab and cream egg roll was amazing. Don't get the sangria, but the 'that guy' drink was very good :) they have a great selection of beers and some interesting offerings on cocktails.

Establishment, food, and service is fine. I’m giving a 3 stars for something H&S they have no control over - the clientele. I’ve never been to a bar in Boston where I’ve had more snooty interactions with fellow customers than H&S. Something about this place just attracts people who can’t handle the idea of a bar being a noisy and sometimes rowdy place.

Get ready for a positively motivated rave review. So I’m fortunate to live around the corner from this place, but it doesn’t mean I have to love it. I love it because the service is great(say hi to the bartenders and strike up a conversation, they will love you for it) the food is on point every time. I love trying new things but I’ll go to Hops N Scotch for their mussels and truffle friends. If either of those strike your fancy, you’re welcome. The drinks and atmosphere are good too, if you’re looking for a low key, chill place with (sometimes) live music. It’s a great local bar but I think they have enough ideal bar qualities that I’d travel back here for if I ever moved.

Walked in on a busy saturday night but managed to get seated immediately on the restaurant side. The cookie recipe drink is to die for. We had been sitting in the restaurant area but weren't eating so they requested we move to the bar area. The seating was worse but they were kind enough to offer us a free round of drinks in return.

Food was very satisfactory. Spicy shrimp a bit skimpy on the shrimp, but tasty. The mac and cheese and edamame salad were huge and delicious. Spicy mussels weren't, but were still good. Paella was tasty but resembled a risotto more. Service was spot on and very friendly. Excellent selection of beer and single malt scotch. Vibe was friendly, comfortably young adult, and there were several casual dates as well. Music with a beat and the noise level did rise as the evening went on, but was not unbearable. This joint works for me.
